Feet Gait Analysis

Did you know that we offer foot scans and gait analysis at Foot Solutions? Our experienced team understands the importance of good foot health and we will take the time to understand your lifestyle and any foot pain you are experiencing so that we can find the very best options for you. Often, a small adjustment to footwear or the addition of a custom-made orthotic device can entirely change the way your feet feel and give you a much more comfortable experience.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the scanning technology we use to assess your feet and discover what scans can tell us about your foot structure. We use scans to inform our recommendations, ensuring that we find the most appropriate solutions for your situation. You can pop in and visit us in store to seek advice or find footwear that is well suited to your feet, and we know you’ll feel the difference straight away!

We use scans to find out more about your feet.

Also, our foot scans are in addition to our gait analyses and NOT part of it.

Effective gait analysis give us a much more detailed understanding of the way your feet work, and our foot wellness experts use our proprietary 3D laser scanning, pressure mapping and design software to create the solution that your feet need. Every foot is different, and a tailored approach that takes this into account is much more likely to be effective at reducing foot pain and increasing comfort than an ‘off the shelf’ solution.

We have 26 bones in each foot, along with a number of muscles, ligaments and tendons that work together to optimise mobility and stabilise the feet as you walk, stand and run. It is not surprising, then, that foot problems are relatively common and that these can, quite literally, stop us in our tracks. We rely on our feet to carry us around all day and when our feet are compromised, this can have a significant impact on our daily lives. We value the insight we can gain by studying the biomechanics of your feet to find out what is really going on, and this allows us to make informed suggestions about the options that may work best for you.

How do Foot Scans Work?

Our 3D foot scans are very comprehensive, with thousands of sensors to give a full picture of the foot and the way it moves. We can use this data to find out more about your feet and your gait, and we can then recommend the best custom-made orthotics or footwear options for your unique foot profile.

Common foot problems that may benefit from foot scans include:

  • Fallen arches. If you are born with flat feet, you may not experience any difficulties or pain associated with this. However, if your arches collapse later in life, known as fallen arches, you may feel pain or discomfort as a result. This will be revealed in a gait analysis, and our scans will allow us to see exactly where the foot is coming under increased pressure. We will then be able to suggest solutions such as custom-made orthotics that offer support in the places you need it most.
  • Bunions. Bunions can be caused or worsened by the pressure placed on the bones of the toes when they are pressed together by shoes with a narrow toe box, especially high heeled shoes. A scan can highlight areas of pressure in the feet and identify structural changes, so we can take preventative action such as switching to shoes that have a wide toe box, wearing toe separators or splints or using custom-made orthotics.
  • Overpronation. If your feet tend to roll in towards one another when you walk, you are experiencing overpronation and this can lead to uneven pressure on the feet, which can cause rubbing or even strain the tendons and ligaments. A custom-made orthotic can gently correct this problem by supporting the foot in a way that prevents overpronation and provides the stability and cushioning you need. Alternatively, if your feet roll away from each other when you walk, this is known as supination, and it can be treated in a similar way.
